Hey y’all! It’s been a while…again.
What a fucking year, huh?! It has lasted 29453 years and flown by at the same time. Let’s back up…how did we get here to today, August 25?
January – March…April…May
Well, we kicked things off with a tough freaking busy season. I worked more than I’ve ever worked before (heard that one before, right?) and broke myself down in the worst way. I didn’t see my friends or family for months and I was operating on something around 2-3 hours of sleep a night for many weeks. I was barely eating (YES YOU HEARD IT HERE, Lauren wasn’t eating for once) and the only times I did eat was to have ice cream. Breakdowns happened and tears were a normal daily(/hourly) occurrence.
Once our deadline passed on March 2, 2020, I took a week or so to sleep and recover and take care of myself. It kind of helped. As soon as I was feeling a bit more up to it, I started trying to see people and BOOM. Fucking COVID.
We don’t need to get into the details but if you want, you can read about how that one impacted me a little bit here: COVID FEELZ. Spoiler alert – it didn’t go well.
June – July
I didn’t even get around to making some really fun and exciting announcements that I had before COVID ruined all of that.
You may or may not know that I had arranged to relocate and transfer with my company from Virginia Beach to San Francisco (SURPRISE!). I was set to work in VA until the end of May and then I scheduled two months off before the move was planned at the end of July. I had a 6 week, 10-country, Southeast Asia trip planned and was going to kick it off in Tokyo at the Olympics. HAH. That didn’t happen. Instead, I got to sit home by myself, do a lot of nothing, make some videos, work, work, work, and get depressed. At least over this period, I was able to see my friends and family in small groups or one on one to say goodbye to alllll of my people.
So here is what 2020 was SUPPOSED to look like:
And here is what it did look like…
[yessss…I downloaded TikTok don’t judge me with those judgey eyes]
And then I moved, mid pandemic, to a new state that is mostly shut down, knowing very few people. 2020 is just the best! 🙂
August
Now firmly planted in San Francisco, I have a new apartment that I rented (sight-unseen) and it took my movers 4 weeks to get my stuff here. Oh, joy. But now I have been here for a month today and I am mostly settled. I’m working from home for the foreseeable future, but meeting some new people in the most socially distanced ways I can.
The rest of 2020 looks pretty bleak if I’m being honest, but I’m home and can’t wait for this new adventure to come post-COVID! I’ve been gone for a while, but I’m back and ready to shower you with all of the travel posts as soon as I’m allowed to. Stick around, friends…we can only go up from here!
